January 2018

4th graders continue playing soprano recorders and learning rhythms and the name of notes on the staff.
This month we will be using more barred percussion instruments.

September wk 2

4th graders began playing recorders this week in music class.  Some are new to the recorder.   So we did a lot of reviewing of fingerings for B, A, and G.  We moved around the room singing "Welcome to Recorder" .  We chanted: "B, B, B  thumb and one is B" , A, A, A, thumb, one, two is A", etc. to help remember fingerings.  We'll see if it worked this next week!  Make sure to bring your recorder to every music class from now on.  if your student does not own a recorder, you may purchase one from the Lamping Website.  If you are unable to purchase a recorder, please have your 5th grader talk to Mrs. Schoessow to make other arrangements.

August wk 4

4th graders got off to a great start this week singing and dancing to "Good Morning".  We also discussed music room rules, recorders (which they will need the 2nd week in Sept) and listened to some music from John Williams (Star Wars).  Ask them what S.Q.U.I.L.T. means.  They serenaded Mrs. Schoessow with "My America" (that they learned last year) and added a new song to their repertoire called "Funga Alafia".  It's a West African song about welcome and friendship.   Many were interested in joining one or both of the new Lamping performing groups open only to 4th and 5th graders: Concert Choir and/or Percussion Ensemble.  If they didn't receive the sign-up applications, both can be printed from the home page of this website.  Applications are due by Sept. 3rd.
